Throw In is a tribute to the best game ever, Kick Off 2. It is during development by Gianluca Troiano, the 2003, 2004 and 2005 Kick Off 2 World Champion. Throw in and its goal is to reproduce the classic gameplay of Kick Off 2. Just as in Kick Off 2 you can do anything on the pitch with just a single fire button. A second button can be enabled though. Betaversions are available for download. Gianluca will happily accept any comments and help for his game. The most famous gametitles that ANCO developed was the Kick Off and Player Manager-series.
Kick Off is a one of the most acclaimed football computer game series ever released for home computer and console.

In 1989 ANCO published the first Amiga and Atari ST versions of Kick Off and it was immediately considered the first pioneer of the soccer computer games thanks to all the new original features never included in a football game before.

With Kick Off, contrary to all its predecessors, the ball didn't stick to the player's feet but was realistically kicked ahead from the players. This added an important degree of difficulty and skill requirement at the same time. This, along with all the new original features like action replays, players with different characteristics, different tactics, fouls, yellow cards, red cards, Injuries, Injury Time and various referees with different moods made Kick Off and especially its successor, Kick Off 2, one of the most successful football game series ever. Kick Off enthusiasts still play big World Cup competitions on original Amiga computers every year arguing that no other football game gives so much exciting amount of control over the action.

Even though versions for other computers followed, the Atari ST and especially the Amiga versions were by far the best. Kick Off was first developed for the Atari ST and then ported to the Amiga.

Kick Off was developed by Dino Dini (programming, design).
The game was ported to various home computers and video game consoles, including the Amiga, Atari ST, Commodore 64, Game Boy, NES, PC and Sega Master System. Despite the plethora of ports, Only Amiga, Atari ST and X68000 ports were made with the same source code (Assembler for Motorola 68000 processors) and give the same Kick Off feelings. Also few of these systems support digital Joystick controllers, so an authentic Kick Off experience is extremely rare these days.
Sequels
In 1990 Kick Off 2 was released by ANCO. It was even more successful than his predecessor.

In 1992, a sequel, Kick Off 3 was in development. For various reasons the game didn't make it out.

Dino Dini left ANCO on 1993 for Virgin games and he released Goal! for them on 1994. Goal! was a totally different football game that was not well accepted by most of the kick off enthusiastic players.

In the same year ANCO released Kick Off 3 developed by Steve Screech, a totally new game with nothing in common with Kick Off 2.

In 2001 Steve Screech started a project called Ultimate Kick Off with the help of an early established KOA. The game was released by ANCO in 2002 with the name Kick Off 2002. Later a sequel called Kick Off 2004 was planned but it was never been released.

In 2005 Steve Camber started his project called Kick Off 2 competition version. An updated version of the classic game for Amiga improving its features using reverse engineering on the original Amiga game.

Trivia
*Dino Dini worked on the Kick Off series till Kick Off 2, all the later games were developed by Steve Screech
*KOA, the international Kick Off Association arrange every year in a different european City a big international Kick Off World Cup. Changes in this version are : Teams are reset properly in between matches. This can be disabled in the KO2CV menu if you want to continually play with a modified line-up. Useless but interesting. A debug feature which has been hidden inside the code, I have added an option in the KO2CV menu to enable it. Finally Steve has tracked down the speed advantage that human players have vs CPU players. It can be switched off to make 1 player games more challenging. n option in the KO2CV menu will prevent your team from doing auto slides or auto headers. This does not include the unintentional slide when trying to trap the ball with an opponent nearby. And last but not anywhere least - At last we have the initial release of this feature. Switch this on in the KO2CV menu. Take the ball to where you want to take the free kick from. Hit F2 to set the position. Get possession of the ball and Hit F3. A free kick will be taken from the selected position. When you have possession of the ball again, hit F3 to take again.. and again.

Dino Dini (5th June 1965, London) is most noted for being the creator of two extremely successful sports game brands - Kick Off and Player Manager. These redefined the football action and management games, and have influenced virtually all football (soccer) games ever since.</br>

Dino worked also in on a new football game to be published by Microprose from 1995 to 1996. Unfortunately Microprose decided to drop most of their sports titles, and the project was cancelled with an amicable agreement.</br>

In 1996, Dino went to the United States in order to gain experience of corporate game development and management working as Group Leader and briefly as Project Manager. Dino helped Z-Axis ship Three Lions, the number one hit fully 3D soccer game published by Take 2 Interactive. This title was released under various different names in Europe, and also as Alexi Lalas International Soccer in the USA. Later Dino worked at Universal Studios directing prototype work for a project called "Monster Movie".</br>

At 3DO Dino worked with the library group and directed development of "Vegas Games 2000" for Playstation to both create a product and put their library code through its paces, he did fire-fighting work on the hit game "Army Men Sarge's Heroes" for Nintendo 64" and also on "Family Game Pack" for Playstation. Dino directed the Groovy Bunch Of Games product for the PC, which included a new game design by Dino, "Box Battles". Finally at 3DO, Dino operated as "Studio Engineer", to encourage code sharing and programming standards between tech leads at the company.</br>

Dino Dini also worked for a THQ studio, where he was given the task of directing the creation of a tripple A title in 6 months with no team in place and a small budget, succeeding in taking the project to Alpha, inspite of the fact that the technology team at the company were engaged in shipping a concurrent slipping title themselves and most of the technology codebase was shared and unsuitable for the task.</br>

In 2001 Dini started to work with DC studios personnel on the abortive soccer game code-named "Soccer 3" and later called Total Control Football. He continued the work for four years until 2005, before the project ended without the final product ever reaching the market. Dini has since worked as a contractor together with other companies on a government funded project. Since 2007 he is lecturer at the NHTV in Breda, Netherlands, teaching Game Design and programming. He also has started a career as musician.
General FAQ
What is KOA (Kick Off Association)?
It's a group of fans devoted to Kick Off. Their aim is to keep the game alive and meet each other every year in a big international Kick Off 2 Tournament: the World Cup Gathering.

What is Kick Off 2?
It's one of the best computer games related to football ever made. It was programmed by Dino Dini & Steve Screech, AD 1990

How can I play Kick Off 2?
You need an Amiga, a Joystick and a floppy disk of Kick Off 2. You can also play with an emulator and a Joystick adaptor on Windows (WinUAE), on Linux (E-UAE) and on Apple Macintosh (E-UAE) with a floppy image of Kick Off 2 and the kickstart 1.3.

What are the differences of the cracked (by Oracle) version and the original Kick Off 2?
The cracking group Oracle has cracked an early version of Kick Off 2 World Cup 90 back in the year 1990. But this versions are different in some details. The other versions that came onto market was Kick Off 2 World Cup 90 v1.2 and Kick Off 2 v1.4. Not everybody had bought the original game and somebody are used to the Oracle version and the other part has only played the v1.4. The biggest difference is the so called PBD (Penalty Box Dribbling), which can only be found in the early Kick Off 2 World Cup 90 version and the Kick Off 2 "cracked by Oracle" version.

What exactly is PBD (Penalty Box Dribbling)?
The programmer of Kick Off 2 - Dino Dini - has experimented with this feature in a previous version of Kick Off 2 World Cup 90 v1.2 which has been removed in the final versions. This feature is called PBD.
PBD makes the control of the ball more stick to the player on the penalty box (or the right or left side of it). PBD is therefore something changing the dynamics of the ball. PBD does not exist on any Atari ST version (but there're some suspects that some versions have PBD) and on the Amiga does exists only on early Kick Off 2 World Cup 90 original version and on all Kick Off 2 World Cup 90 Cracked by Oracle.
As some people have grown up with the Oracle version and have their standard goals with the PBD, while others are used to the version without this feature and have their standard goals without the PBD, big events like the World Cup must be played on both versions. The rule says that Team A (home) decides about which version to play.
Until the year 2005 one half of the Amigas ran with Oracle and the other half with 1.4. Since 2005 there is the Kick Off 2 competition version which obsoletes this logistical problem.

What are the improvements in the Kick Off 2 competition version?
The Kick Off community is lucky to have some clever coders as its member, which have reverse engineered Kick Off 2 and have made some nice improvements. Steve Camber has brought us the Competition Version for the World Cup 2005.
First this version has all the options set already after booting the game. This means no silly clicking through the menus just to do the same settings every time. The main feature is the chance to switch PBD ON and OFF. This can be done by pressing the "5" key (just next to the tactics keys). This means no more changing of the Amigas and same chances for everyone. Considering the gameplay the Competition Version is 100% identical with the former versions!

How do I get my Kick Off 2 copy?
If you do not own an Amiga, you can use the ADF provided at download directly with an Amiga emulator for PCs.
The real fun only comes when playing on an original Amiga, though! Amigas can easily be found on Ebay. The ADFs can of course also be tranfered to an Amiga, but this is not that easy. There is the possibility to go over a null-modem cable, or with special Amigas that can also understand the MS-DOS filesystem. More resources can be found on the web.
If you do not have any chance to get your copy, write an email to info@kickoff2.com. For 3€ I would send you an Amiga-Diskette with your own copy of Kick Off 2.

What cheats exist for kick off 2 ?
* Switch on autofire, or repeatedly press the fire button and the result will be that your keeper will save the ball every time.

* Keep pressing the 'R' key when you take a penalty, this will show you where the players going to kick the ball.

* In mid-match press all the function keys from left to right 'F1' to 'F10'. "S12" or "S14" should appear in the top right hand corner. You will now be able to substitute the computer's keeper and the new guy will be completely useless.

* Save every Penalty (discovered by Trevor Dutton ) when the player steps up to take the kick, pull down diagonally left on the joystick. As soon as he hits the ball, push up diagonally right and press fire.

* Substitute the opposing goalkeeper twice and he will not save your shots.

In practice this is impossible to enforce. About anything that is out there
Dino Dini's Soccer was a conversion of Goal! for the Amiga to the Sega Mega Drive (Genesis in North America) by Dino Dini himself. Dino Dini's Soccer had all the relevant features of the Amiga version and it was graphically superior to it. The game implemented an innovative 4-way play feature.

There was also a conversion to Super NES, however this version was only an interpretation of the game, and Dino was unhappy to have his name associated with it, as he was not responsible for any of that version and had no creative control what-so-ever on it. The SNES version features a very different control method, with the ball on sticking to your foot to make running with the ball easier. The game is viewed from above and played up and down the pitch, without the left-to-right option of Goal. Matches can be between 2 or 20 minutes, and the scanner which shows player positions on the rest of the pitch can be moved, resized or disabled. The method of triggering aftertouch onto a pass can be chosen as well.

The game features a variety of tournaments, including the full World Cup and its qualifying rounds, and the European Championships, or individual matches, as well as being able to configure a league or cup tournament ot your own specification. Only international teams are included, although their names can be customised. Unlike most soccer games of the time, player ethnicities are accurately depicted.
